A fresh perspective on accessibility

At Dutchview, Bufferdays aren’t just time off. They’re a chance to learn something new, spend time with colleagues, and have fun as a team. For our first Bufferday of the year, we focused on a topic that’s close to our hearts: digital accessibility.

The morning: seeing the web differently (Netherlands)

We started the day with a hands-on session about visual impairments and how they affect the way people use the internet. It was a real eye-opener. We explored what makes a website harder to use when you can’t rely on your eyesight and what we can do to make our designs more inclusive.

“Learning about accessibility gave me a completely new perspective. It reminded me that design isn’t just about how things look, it’s about how people experience it, no matter their abilities.”

We left the session with lots to think about and a stronger drive to design with everyone in mind.

Activities across countries

While the team in the Netherlands focused on accessibility and games, our colleagues in India had their own fun and meaningful day.

The morning: puzzles and teamwork (India)

The day started with a group game that had everyone copying funny actions passed down the line. It was a fun and light way to kick things off.

Next, the team worked on a special activity: putting together Tangram puzzle sets for children in local schools. These puzzles help encourage creative thinking and problem-solving. It was a great mix of fun, teamwork, and giving back.

The afternoon: playtime for grown-ups

In the Netherlands 🇳🇱

After lunch, we headed to Multifun in Bussloo for some classic fun.

🎲 Old Dutch games
We kicked off with traditional games like sjoelen and stokkenvangen. Some of us remembered playing them as kids, others were trying them for the first time. It was a relaxed and fun way to connect.

Break time
A quick pause for apple pie and a chat helped us recharge for what came next.

🔫 Laser tag and minigolf
Then came laser tag and minigolf. Both were full of energy, competition, and plenty of laughs.

In India 🇮🇳

After lunch, our Indian team went to the Game Arena for an action-packed afternoon.

🔐 Escape rooms
They tackled two themed escape rooms, Haunted Asylum and Pirates of the Caribbean. Two groups managed to solve the clues and escape just in time.

🕶 VR games
There were also virtual reality games that let everyone step into a different world and enjoy something new.

🔫 Laser tag
Just like in the Netherlands, the day wrapped up with laser tag. There was lots of movement, strategy, and cheering from the sidelines.

Why it mattered

Bufferdays like this are more than just a break from work. They help us connect, reflect, and recharge. We had fun, we learned something new, and we spent time with people we don’t always work with.

We explored what accessibility means in practice. We gave back to our communities. We teamed up, played games, and shared laughs across countries and cultures.

All these moments, big and small, help us grow as a team. And that makes a difference when we’re back at our desks, working together on what’s next.
